One thing that won't incur a weight penalty is printing on both sides of the sleeve that gets inserted on the cases. I won't really know until it is time to start shipping. I will probably be able to just share them out equally (everyone would get 2-3 extra postcards), but I may have to reduce the allocation to the Premium sets and to International Basic sets in order to avoid extra shipping costs. Remember those extra postcards? How they are allocated will depend on the final weights. This case will be the standard blue going to a clear case would add significantly to the cost because a clear case+tray combo is not a standard item. If it turns out to come in under 8 ounces then this will save an additional $400-500 on international shipping (the effect on domestic shipping is negligible), but I'm assuming this won't happen. The current estimated package weight is 8.31 ounces. The Basic set will be coming in a standard Amaray with an additional 2-disc tray. Once I have actual components of the set in hand (a box prototype, the coin, the patch, etc) I may be able to revisit this and go back to regular Amaray cases (which will be cheaper). Also, they have a hub design that I like a lot. The trade-off is that they are a little more flexible than a standard case if you try and twist them, but since they're going to spend most of their lives inside a sturdy chipboard box, I don't think it's a significant drawback. It's also available in clear plastic instead of the regular blue. These cases are solid like regular Amaray cases (no cutouts!), but have areas where the thickness of the plastic is reduced - and this saves 0.7 ounces per case, getting us under the weight limit. I talked it over with the replicator, and they suggested using Eco-lite Vortex cases. Go a fraction of an ounce over 1 lb and the cost of shipping the Premium sets soars by well over $1500!Īnd wouldn't you know it, my estimate for the Premium set - even after doing things like researching padded mailer types to save a fraction of an ounce - was coming in at 16.95 ounces, so I needed a way to put the set on a diet.
For the Premium set, the critical weight (for the product, packaging, coin and postcards) is 1 pound, because packages that are 1 pound or less are much cheaper to ship both domestically and internationally. In order to trim the budget enough to make all of this possible, weight became a big issue, because it drives shipping costs.

If you go back to the previous update and recompute things with the bigger budget and getting the subtitles for free, that's enough to add the Bubblegum Crisis RPG books - all of them - to the set! The end result is that I had about $4,800 in additional budget to allocate.
